ABOUT ME

Elfin Açar is a visual artist who expresses personal stories through abstract forms, with a geometric approach. Born and raised in Izmir, her work draws inspiration from the intersections of memory and place, especially how these shape our emotions and identities. Her artistic journey, shaped by her exploration of identity, nature, and space as a female artist, is as transformative as the new forms she creates. Açar’s multi-layered paintings and installations, which spread across exhibition spaces, reflect her inner world through simple yet striking compositions. In her recent work, Açar develops an abstract visual language based on geometry, using thick layers of paint on surfaces such as canvas and fabric. This creative process is intimately connected to the emotional shifts of her daily life, childhood memories, early recollections that are slowly fading, and the complex feelings of displacement she experiences as a woman in a mad world. These themes extend from the warm, life-affirming circle of the sun to the tranquil greens of a distant landscape, inviting us to reflect on the symbols and forms that bridge the past, present, and future. Açar’s works can be seen as poetic diaries—deeply personal yet universal. These pieces offer a space for contemplation, aiming to soften the harshness of everyday life through simplicity. Without glorifying or dismissing emotions, she invites viewers to question them and delve into their essence.
